eCommerce Story Time – Hiring My First Employee

Welcome to another episode of my eCommerce Story Time podcasts. This is Story Time episode 7 and I hope you’re enjoying my stories so far. If this is your first time here, you’ll want to go back and listen to past eCommerce stories where I share how I got started into eCommerce, my very first sale on eBay, my version of eBay thrifting in 1998, how I transitioned from a hobby seller into a full eCommerce business and finally how I nearly won a $5,000,000 business plan competition shark tank style. Exciting stories that I’m sure you’ll enjoy as well as hopefully learn a lessor or two along the way.

I’ve also started other podcast series such as eCommerce Wisdom and eCommerce Lessons where I share more recent lessons or experiences I’ve had in eCommerce and the lessons learned. I share them with you hoping you don’t need to learn some of these lessons the hard way. That’s the whole point.

One other thing that I JUST LAUNCHED is my first FREE eCommerce Training Course where I share the big picture of building an automated and efficient eCommerce business sharing with you my 5 Laws to eCommerce I follow as I build my smallest/biggest eCommerce business of my own.

Today’s story is about how I went about hiring my first employee. Wait, how I hired my first three employees. That’s right, nothing like going big right out of the gate and hiring a team of employees to help me build this baby versus one employee at a time.

What’s unique about my situation is I was still employed in the corporate world, I was still finishing my MBA degree and I didn’t even have an office or a location for my new employees to work. But that didn’t stop me.

The first lesson, or more of a reminder, is as entrepreneurs we need to be creative with resources to get to where we want to go if we want to get there quickly. How I hired my first three employees is a great example of my creativity.

Take a listen to the podcast and I’ll share how I got this done. How did we coordinate things without an office? Where did I get the money to pay them? I’ll answer these questions and more in this episode of eCommerce Story Time. Thank you for joining me and I hope you enjoy.

Cheers to selling smarter!

Brandon
